Membership

Membership in the International Genealogical and Historical College 
Membership in the International Genealogical and Historical College (IGHC) is open to individuals and societies who support the genealogical, historical, and educational mission of the College. IGHC offers several classes of membership, each with its own qualifications, privileges, and recognitions. 

Individual Membership (Fellows) 
Any person 18 years of age or older who is a member of a lineage, hereditary, genealogical, historical, or heraldic society is eligible to join as a Fellow

Special Fellowships
Certain members may qualify for distinguished categories of Fellowship based on documented lineage or early support of the College.

Founding Fellows 
Applicants who join before or at the first scheduled meeting are recognized as Founding Fellows and may wear the Founding Fellow device. The first fifty are known as the Founding 50. 

Royal Fellows 
Members who document direct descent from a royal ancestor qualify as Royal Fellows and may wear the miniature golden crown device. 

Noble Fellows 
Members who document descent from a noble ancestor qualify as Noble Fellows and may wear the miniature golden castle device. 

Diplomatic Fellows 
Members who have served as a principal officer (president, governor, regent, etc.) of a lineage or genealogical organization and have served as a national officer or trustee for at least one year may be recognized as Diplomatic Fellows. Members who qualify for more than one distinguished fellowship may wear all earned devices simultaneously.

Associate Members 
Individuals who support the mission of the College but do not meet the eligibility requirements for Fellowship may join as Associate Members.


Society Membership 
State-level lineage, heritage, genealogical, and historical societies may join as Society Members.

This category helps ensure representation from the broader genealogical and historical community. 

Patrons of the College 
The Principal Founders of the Order are recognized as Patrons for their foundational work and contributions. Additional Patrons may be nominated by the Governor General and approved by the Executive Committee.
